How is Chlamydia transmitted?

Chlamydia is transmitted through sexual contact with the penis, vagina, mouth, or anus of an infected partner
  • ejaculation does not have to occur for chlamydia to be transmitted or acquired
  • Chlamydia can be spread from an untreated mother to her baby during childbirth, which can result in the baby developing conjunctivitis or pneumonia
  • Recovered persons with chlamydia can get infected again if they engage in sexual activity with an infected person
  • It is spread when infected fluids (vaginal fluids, semen, and/or pre-cum)
  • Using a condom or dam during sexual activity of any kind can reduce the risk of transmission
  • You cannot get chlamydia by sharing the same toilet seats or bathrooms with an infected person
